Chatman signs one-year deal; chances of McFadden fading

March
10

Most of the time when free agents come to a bad team they’re looking to improve it. Jesse Chatman’s already picked up three wins by signing with the J-E-T-S.

Chatman, a fifth-year running back, agreed to a one-year contract yesterday. It’s unclear whether he came for the money, the connections (he worked with Brian Schottenheimer in [...]

Cotchery compliments

March
8

At least one Jet is happy with the recent flurry of signings.“I‘ll tell you what — I’m pumped up, man. I’m pumped up with  the moves we’re making. I feel like they’re good moves,” Jerricho Cotchery said. “I always felt like [Mike] Tannenbaum and Coach Mangini knew what they were doing.” It’s crazy that there’s even a need to point this out. Shouldn’t everybody be thrilled? Cleveland is the only team that can even make a case for having improved as much as the Jets. Anyone who’s going to be [...]

Another blocker on board

March
6

This time it’s fullback Tony Richardson, an 11-year vet from the Vikings. This isn’t as big as the other signings because 1) it’s only a one-year deal and 2) fullback might be the least important position on the field. Still, it’s another sign that the Jets are determined to revamp their personnel in the trenches.

Oh, [...]

Anonymous Jets lash out at spending spree

March
6

Interesting story in The Daily News today about two unnamed players ripping management for throwing money at free agents. They’re angry/jealous that existing Jets won’t be treated as well as the guys they’re bringing in.

“You pay guys you don’t even know, and the guys in the locker room – the guys that have your back [...]

Robertson deal fell through

March
4

It appears the Jets and Bengals had a deal in place to send Robertson to Cincinnati for fourth and fifth round picks. It was contingent on him agreeing to retructure his contract, which counts for a number against the cap that befits a player twice his stature. Cincy and his agent Hadley Englehard couldn’t agree [...]

Pace and Woody on board

March
3

Did anybody tell the other 31 teams that the free agency period started? The Jets have gobbled up every guy on the market. It’s incredible.

Two more guys are on board today. First Calvin Pace, Arizona’s linebacker/defensive end, signed for six years and $42 mil, including $22 mil in guarantees. That’s according to ESPN. Pace played [...]

Faneca’s new deal

March
2

Just want to amend the Faneca situation. He ended up agreeing to a five year, $40 million deal instead of the four-year, $32 million reported earlier. The new deal includes $21 million in guarantees. That’s a lot for a 31-year-old with as much mileage as Faneca, who’s been in a ton of playoff games as [...]

Faneca joins the O-line

February
29

What a flurry of moves. If the Jets stink again next year at least you won’t be able to say it’s for lack of trying. Their latest move was the best, signing Pro-Bowl guard Alan Faneca away from the Steelers. The 10-year vet and seven-time Pro-Bowler signed a four year, $32 million deal.

This marked [...]

Saint Jonathan

February
29

Well that was quick.

It didn’t take even 14 hours for the Jets to unload Jonathan Vilma. Today they sent him to New Orleans, who along with Detroit had shown the most interest, for a conditional draft pick. It’s unclear what conditions need to be met, but John Clayton of ESPN is reporting that it could [...]

Jets trade for Kris Jenkins

February
29

The Jets have a new nose tackle, and he’s not half bad. In one of the first deals after the midnight trade deadline they took Jenkins off Carolina’s hands for a third and fifth round draft pick. He’s got prototypical size for a run-stuffing defensive tackle (6-foot-4, 349), which is a welcome sight after watching our [...]
