There are players that make millions, but Matt Slauson is not one of them, he is a sixth round pick. Since the Jets invested a late round pick, he may make the 53 and pull down 310,000 in salary or he could make approximately 80,000 as a practice squad member (Matt also pulled a signing bonus of 95,000).There is a big differance in salary between the Varsity and the Practice squad, A little pressure here. So lets take a look at Matt's competition.
The Starters
Mangold, Woody , Brick , Faneca, Moore ( two over 30)
Last years Reserves
Robert Turner, Reserve center, both guard spots and RT
Wayne Hunter, Your Swing tackle, a journeyman who is the only backup to Brick. Wayne is in the last year of his deal
...
These 7 guys are all locks, but we think Rex will carry a more traditional 8 offensive lineman... So Matt may still have a chance
There are four undrafted Free agents, OT Kyle Link,OT Tavita Thompson,OT Ryan McKee and center Michael Parenton. You may see a couple of these guys on the practice squad.
But Slausons primary competition comes from Stanley Daniels, a huge OG , that has spent a year in the system on the practice squad, and Mike Kracalik, the 6'8 338, OT that was originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted Free Agent, went to San Diego, and spent sometime with Rex in Baltimore. Kracalik at 338 plays left tackle and has an outside chance to supplant Hunter.
So for Matt Slauson, it a summer of compeition, where you make 310,000 or 80,000 or unemployment , go Matt.

The Jets haven't been successful lately with drafting Offensive Lineman in the late rounds. Matt could be the exception. The jets need to develop depth, last year they only carried 7 offensive lineman, most teams carry at least 8. Matt may be a guard this year but he played both left and Right Tackle for the Huskers. Possible replacment for Woody at RT as early as 2010
