Plaxico?

The Jets have declined to comment on the latest report, that the team is making inquiries about former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress. That’s right, the Plaxico who shot himself in the leg and is facing criminal charges.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Jets have had internal discussions about signing Plaxico, and if they have, it shows just how much the Jets want to sign a top-flight wide receiver.
Update 9:35: This just in from the Jets. A person with knowledge of the situation said it was a pretty rote inquiry – nothing too dramatic.
Statement from EVP/General Manager Mike Tannenbaum:
“Consistent with our normal approach of performing our due diligence, we contacted Drew Rosenhaus several days ago prior to the draft to inquire about Plaxico’s pending legal situation. However, we have had no discussions with Drew about Plaxico since that time.”
Something competely different: Rutgers DE Jamaal Westerman signs with Jets as a FA.

Uh Oh…......!?.....No Way
There’s that “due diligence” thing again…
Not at all a Plaxico fan. However, you are not going to win a championship with a bunch of chior boys. And anybody who says they would rather lose than win with Plax is behind the times. We didn’t want T.O., Randy Moss or Cutler. But all three would have helped us win. It’s time to take a step forward into the future. Not backward to the past.
Although the Jets desperately need a big and big-time receiver, Plax is a cancer, especially around a young QB. Does anyone remember his antics and gestures to the young Eli Manning when he wasn’t getting enough balls thrown his way? Not what the Jets should want to see if Sanchez misses a couple of throws to Plax. I say look elsewhere for a WR.
I agree with looking elsewhere. Like Cleveland for Edwards or Arizona for Bolden. Even giving up next years #1 plus a later round pick for either one. However if Plax is the only option, we need a big time receiver. And after all he will have gone through, maybe it will humble him a little. As I said earlier I am not a big Plax fan. But I am TIRED of losing.
I’m not inclined to want Plax either…it’s like taking steroids, it might help you in the short term, but it’s gonna kill you in the end.
David…look at these guys….They all take steroids. I have always thought Plax was a slacker. I don’t expect it to happen. I am just saying “what if”? Rex Ryan would make Plax walk a straight line.
If Ryan could make Plax walk a straight line, I might not be against it, Joe. I’m just not sure if anyone could force that guy to walk a straight line. Coughlin is no cream puff, and he couldn’t keep the guy from self-destructing.
I’d worry about a guy like him, who is going to have no strikes left, if and when he is allowed to play again. To be honest, I don’t think Goodell is going to let the guy skate right back onto the field, regardless of what happens to him in the court of law. He’s a real long shot under the best of circumstances…
