Mini camp next week

Since the Jets get an extra mini camp this season thanks to having a new coach in Rex Ryan, it will be interesting to see if running back Thomas Jones shows up for that. Jones apparently feels he deserves a new deal after being the leading rusher in the AFC last season, and frankly the running game is the one part of the Jets offense and defense that doesn’t need any tinkering.
Two years ago it was C Pete Kendall, last year it was TE Chris Baker and now Jones. The Jets don’t need another contract disspute going into training camp (wherever that might be this season). General manager Mike Tannenbaum has shelled out a lot of money for free agents this off season and last. He should take care of the inhouse performers like Jones and Leon Washington, and keep the good vibes going and the successful running game intact.

One good year and Jones wants more.Wait till the end of
this upcoming season and see what he does then just maybe
he can work out a new deal.If the Jets give it to him now
they might as well give the offensive line more also,as they played a large part in Jones total yardage.
Thomas Jones is just slam out of leverage at this point, it seems to me.
I know ole Drew has got T-J going through the motions, but Mike doesn’t have to do anything. The guy’s class, and he’ll perform like hell.
They will determine whether he has enough durability to invest in sometime before the beginning of the ‘09 season.
At that point, they’ll start talking about what they’ll do.
I have always like T-J’s effort and over-achievement. The fact that in ‘07 he was able to chalk up so many yards even though his sieve of an offensive line could not open holes down at the goal line for him to score more than one sorry touchdown was a crowning achievement to his dogged persistence.
Let’s hope T-J and the Jets get it on this year. If so, T-J will do fine with us.
