Update: Lito and more

Lito Sheppard spoke a little today about his installment opposite Darelle Revis is the Jets secondary. He said that despite the rift with the Eagles, he expects to play at his peak.
“Change is not always bad, sometimes change can rejuvenate a player,” Sheppard said. “You look around the league, good guys get traded all the time, so it’s part of the game and I think you have to realize that. If a player is not completely happy it can affect his play, so the best thing for the player and organization to get the most out of both is to go elsewhere. In most cases, that happens and players continue to have a good career.”
And again, the Jets have not confirmed it, but many outlets are reporting that strong safety Jim Leonhard has signed a three-year deal with the team.
Secondary, check.
Update 5:12: The Jets made it official. Leonhard is signed, and they finalized the Tony Richardson deal agreed to just before midnight of the free agent deadline.

So, how do people think the Safety position will shake out for next season? Rhodes is an obvious stud and I love Elam. Does this mean bye, bye Eric Smith?
I don’t mean to start a fight, David, but I’ve seen other teams take advantage of Elam’s overaggressiveness. He’s been victimized for TDs more than once. On the other hand, when he strips the ball out at Buffalo or I see him just racing down the field with an int, I love him too. I guess I’m just saying that there is also a down side to him. If teams know he’s going to be that aggressive all of the time, they can use that to burn the Jets.
David,
On second thought, I wonder if one of your longest-running complaints applies here: the need for better coaching. Maybe my above objections will become moot with some good coaching. I’d be happy to see it! Elam obviously has some raw skills and the aggressive attitude that Rex is looking for.
Valid points, Alex. I’ve just been most impressed with his hustle and effort. Some guys get burned sitting on their heels, with a big soft cushion and some guys get burned trying to make plays. I think he is one who is always trying to make plays.
Well it looks like we won’t have to worry about LV coming back and haunting us too often in the future. He was just signed by the Bengals. We will see him this year when the Bengals come in for a J*E*T home game.
I’m glad he got the contract he was looking for. I can’t imagine playing for the Bungles can be a whole lot of fun. I’m kind of surprised he didn’t wind up in Miami or Buffalo.
1) Coles is a good guy, but his time was up with us.
2)Time for a big, tall reciever.
3)Elam is a super hard hitting, sometimes over aggresive player. More like a situational player.
4) QB is totally up in the air right now.
Coles is on the downside of his career! I also believe that his chemistry in the locker room is more cancerous then people think. His constant complaining during offseasons has made me sick.
We do def need a true number 1 receiver.
As for QB I think we are gonna go with Clemons or Ratliff … that will be determined during training camps.
