The Mad Backer

That was Bart Scott’s nickname in Baltimore because he would get steamed at people he was playing against. If there was a scuffle, “if I didn’t start it I was trying to finish it.” Scott said.
Rex Ryan wanted that energy on the Jets so bad that he showed up on Scott’s doorstep at midnight the first day of free agency.
Scott (AP photo) heard his dogs barking and thought they were chasing a deer. Next thing he knew, three Jets coaches were calling asking him to call off the dogs.
“It really showed me they were serious,” Scott said.
So did the cash he will get for coming up here, six years and $48 million. By the way, he said he’s happy to pay higher taxes on that money if it means turning the economy around. For someone who came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent, the attention was pretty cool. “It’s a lackluster road,” he said of being a UFA.
He described the Jets defense for the upcoming season as an “attacking style 3-4.” And the language he used in describing the way the team will play. “I don’t know if this division has ever seen a violent defense.”
Check out this audio of Scott describing the violence in his game.

Someone needs to show Mr. Mad Backer some footage of the Sack Exchange. There is indeed precedent for good defenses.
Great point, JFiMD! It’s been a long time since I didn’t mind a Jets’ three-and-out too much because I loved to watch the Jets’ D come onto the field and stifle the other team’s offense.
I have to go back to the Klecko days to find a Jets’ D like that.
Adam Schecter is reporting that the J*E*T*S have signed Leonhard.
