Boomer on Jets

February
28

The good thing about being at the Rangers tonight is that so is former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason. So I went over to his season seats and invaded his privacy for a few minutes before the second period, and he was very nice about it. Then again, he is a member of the media now with theĀ  Boomer & Carton show on WFAN. Here’s a preview of what you might hear on Monday’s show.

Mike Tannenbaum is a star this time of year,” Esiason said.

Boomer really liked the Lito Sheppard trade and getting Bart Scott in free agency. “They knew they had to have him,” he said.

He said the Brandon Moore renegotiation ended up being a better deal for the Jets, and “You sign a guy you know you are comfortable with.”

The one question mark is the quarterback. Not having one could scare off a Class A wide receiver if one were available. That said, Boomer said if there’s anyone who knows how to win without a great QB, it’s Rex Ryan.

And now, back to hockey.

Good job Jane.I think the jets get a WRon draft with #1 pick for sure now.If not I say trade it.
    Back to the Rangers

    Hakeem Nix!!!!!

I’ll suffer the slings and arrows of Jets’ fans everywhere and for the umpteenth time predict Kellen Clemens’s emergence. Br prepared to be surprised! He is going to be more than adequate; he’s going to be great.

Alex, I hope your right. I didn’t think he was as bad as everyone said he was. He had a bad offensive line and had to make very quick reads that most 2nd year QB couldn’t handle(Flacco and Ryan are the exception, not the rule). I think he has a great arm and just needs to learn how to make better reads.

That said, I think the Jets well draft a QB in the first few rounds as a safety net. It really looks like this draft is going to be offensively-oriented.

  5. Alex

    Harsh,

With this offensive line, he’ll have the TIME to make better reads. As for drafting a QB, the Jets already have two that they drafted (Clemens, Ainge), so I hope they go after a receiver.

Thanks for the bit of support on this , though. I haven’t gotten much at this site, except David’s and a very few others’.

Actually, didn’t Clemens have one of his better games against the Ryan-coached Ravens in his first start? I guess Clemens might have already made a good 1st impression on the new coach

Alex, I didn’t see your response. I agree with you that he’ll have more time with this o-line, especially in their 2nd year together. I also hope they go receiver in the 1st(e.g. Percy Havin), and possibly RB since Jones is getting up there in years, but I can’t see the Jets drafting a QB in the 2nd-4th round because it looks like this organization has given up on Ainge.

  8. Alex

    Harsh,

What gives you the impression that they’ve given up on Ainge? I’m not doubting you, but I just haven’t heard anything like that on blogs or in newspaper stories.

I’ve said before on this blog that if stone-hands McCareins hadn’t dropped an easy TD pass from Clemens the Jets might’ve actually won that game AT BALTIMORE. I hope Rex’s memory is as good as yours and mine! Actually, I’m sure it is, another reason I believe Clemens will actually end up being our starter next year.

  9. Harsh

There’s been a few blogs that reported that the Jets weren’t too happy with Ainge. I don’t have a link, so take it if you want. Either way, it looks like a battle between 3-4 young QBs and with Clemens being the vet and unless the stafford or someone drops down to the Jet, the best arm out of the group. I think he’s got a good shot to be a starter and hopefully a very good one. Fingers cross.

P.S. Yeah, I still remember that Baltimore game and how we should’ve sent to OT if ****** Mccareins wouldn’t drop two easy passes. You might be right about the Jets winning, they certainly had the momentum.

    Harsh,

We don;t need another smaller burner type like Harvin. We have those types. We need a tall receiver. think Nix or Britt. Those are gonna be the 2 steals at WR in this draft.

  12. Erik Sec.309

    Jane,

Is your squad rolling against the Utica Clubbers in Yonkers in March? I saw an advertisement.

  13. Harsh

Erik, I don’t know too much about Nix or Britt to tell you the truth, but I do agree that we need a tall, fast & physical WR, we haven’t had one of those since the Keyshawn days

  14. Jane McManus

    Erik,
Yes that’s my squad. The Suburbia Roller Derby travel team will be taking on the Clubbers in Yonkers at the PAL. Tickets available at the door. More info…
