Chris Baker is a Patriot. Details to come. Sent 10:15 from my iPhone.
Update: Former Jets tight end Chris Baker has signed with the Jets division rival this morning. Baker was a hold out last training camp, but the team came to terms with the veteran a few weeks in.
There were still hard feelings after Baker didn’t get what he felt was promised, and the contract was restructured such that Baker needed to meet performance markers. He did, playing 50 percent of the offensive plays, but the relationship between Baker and the Jets had deteriorated. In many ways, the release was inevitable, but the Jets might value him more when they see him twice a year with New England.
Update II 1:00 p.m.: Bart Scott is not a Jet yet, despite the reports. The team is still working to negotiate the contract with Scott—possibly $8 million per and multiple years—but it is not finalized. Also, the Ray Lewis reports are dead on, I’m getting confirmation that this year the Jets defense could easily be the Baltimore North franchise next season.
Update III 3:45 p.m.: Laveranues Coles is going to visit the Bills according to the Buffalo News. That would mean a TE in Baker with the Patriots, a former QB in Chad Pennington with Miami and LC in Buffalo—hows that for stoking AFC rivalries?
Also, Scott still not a done deal. The Ravens are reportedly raising each counteroffer. I would venture that it’s not a good sign it’s taking this long.
And it’s been widely reported that the team is looking at Chris Kemoeatu to replace Brandon Moore at RG.

I always really liked Baker, who was underutilized as an end-zone TD target once Chad left. He made clutch catches that I don’t think the Jets could possibly have appreciated. This one is going to kick us in the ass, just like Chad being released did.
Hey Jane I’ve took next wed-day off, ya need any help on trade day? Ya think I can hang out and help out in anyway?
Pro-bono ofcorse…............I’ll buy lunch.Or Draft day.
DA DA DA DA DA DA
ESPN is reporting J*E*T*S have signed Scott to a 5 year deal
Alex, I’m inclined to agree with you. I know they have Keller, buthe’s not the blocker that Baker was either. I could stomach this one a bit easier, if he wasn’t going to the evil Patriot organization.
This free agency is quickly turning sour. I’m reading the Steelers guard is staying with the Steelers, which leaves a huge hole at guard…dumb asses. I’m also hearing that the Ravens are pushing Scott’s price through the ceiling, so if the Jets do win that one, they better have enough play money left to cover their other needs. Supreme Moron of the football universe has failed to release the hold on his crown yet.
I’m waiting…
David,
Kemoeatu is out. Exit, stage right, to disgorge!
David,
I guess you were a little bit ahead of me on this one-nearly simultaneous posts.
Can Tannenbaum possibly misplay every hand?
Cheers Alex…Synchronized Vomiting!
Sure he can misplay every hand, Erik. The Moore situation brings to mind the old addage about a bird in the hand…
Can Golston play right guard?.....hee, hee
Ha ha…I bet he plays it as well as he plays his natural position.
I guess John Clayton jumped the gun this morning on the Bart Scott issue. It seems like Scott is using the J*E*T*S as a bargaining chip. Is this another Antoine Winfield deal?
