The Oracle by Proxy

The Oracle of Hattiesburg has let proxy Peter King in on his thinking about whether or not he intends to return next season and quarterback the Jets, and apparently Brett Favre is leaning toward retirement.
That may be the result of players like Kerry Rhodes, Jets coach Rex Ryan and team owner Woody Johnson’s preference for him to work out with the team during the off season. In the past, Favre has used a personal trainer and stayed home in Hattiesburg to work out rather that physically staying in Green Bay.
“You’re kidding yourself if you think he’s going to move back to New Jersey for 12 to 16 weeks in March,” King wrote on Monday.
I know we have a vocal Favre contingient here, so let me say that there is no judgement on my part in this. He has been a quarterback for nearly two decades and can feel he’s earned the right to sit out of OTAs. The Jets however, feel strongly that the unit needs the offseason to knit with a new coach.
Are they too much at odds to come together?

I don’t believe OTA’s are the real issue. Brett has not had a problem in the past with participating. Peter King’s last comment hit the nail on the head. Brett wants to come back in the NFC North and pound the “living daylight” out of his former team to prove to Packer management he is still productive. Unfortunately that won’t happen with the Jets unless both teams get to the Super Bowl next year! For the record I believe the Jets are closer to the SB than the dysfunctional Packers!
I completely agree with the Jets….The QB should be with them the entire team. The most important part of the team needs to be a real member of the team.
Brett has always participated in OTA’s, that is not a problem. What he is not going to do is spend most of the off season in NJ. I disagree with King about Brett wanting to play for the nfc north again, I don’t think that will factor into his decision. The jets were very close last year and have a better chance at the playoffs next year than the packers.
It is way to early for a decision on next year. This season hasn’t even finished.Brett should wait at least two more months before deciding his future, and even then if he decides that he wants to retire ask Jets for a total release
and wait till early summer before saying anything, some
other options might open up.Playing in his old division against Rodgers,Orton and the Lions might look pretty good.
Go Jets Go
It would be very Favrian to wait another few months to decide. However, that is not the best thing for the entire team.
New season doesn’t start for another eight more months.Wait and see is better off for entire team. The Jets are at least
four more new faces with talent to have any real chance
of becoming a great team instead of a good team. Why would you say anything before you see how everything is going
to play out with contracts and trades still be done?Ryan
has a lot more things still to do besides trying to make
fans twelveth player on team at home games.King just like Jane must talk about something that they have no idea what
Favre will to this coming season,so readers do not go on and forget about these sometimes useless Blog’s.
Calm down Favre lover…..No player is greater than the team. No player, no matter how good his pedigree has the right to keep a team hanging when the draft is approaching.
Its Favrian to wait to decide when he had Ted Thompson doing his mumbly mouth double speak. If you guys have never seen him answer, or rather not answer, a question, go to the Packers website and watch him. Favre repeatedly would say that if the team didn’t want him back he wasn’t going to come back. Then Thompson would make some move that hurt the team’s chances for the next season and walk out and sort of mumble that he wanted Favre back. Ted Thompson is a guy who thought that a 4th round draft choice, which he ultimately chose Allen Barbre with, was too rich to spend on Randy Moss. When Moss spoke about Thompson he was critical of his communication and gave the same type of message Favre gave: he didn’t really want him although he wouldn’t say it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he gives his answer in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Dan:
Favre should not get a simple release under any circumstances. He cost us a draft pick, so he should retire or bring us a draft pick if he’s traded.
I’m probably a fool to think that, in part, the Jets released Pennington out of gratitude for all he did for the team over the years, including taking pay cuts for the team’s good and playing while hurt (and playing with sub-par O lines). Favre has not earned this status. Retirement or draft pick. Those are Favre’s options if he is to leave the Jets.
Too much Favre, Favre, Favre…even Jane has to put a disclaimer in for you people. (‘who you calling you people’...sorry had to get that in)
We went for it in one year. Let’s move on. Don’t need this one guy thinking he’s bigger than the team. What’s the difference between him and TO? Only difference is Favre is good ol’ boy from down south (i’m from the south, so just sayin’). I just don’t get it. Great player. Great QB. But enough’s a enough.
Phil T.
Favre has not said a word. The management is the one who told him to take all the time he needs before coming to any decision. What I think Favre should do is my own thoughts and
are probably not at all right. To compare Favre to T.O. is like comparing Jane to Phyllis Diller.Today I head south
for two weeks so Joe b and Erik I hope you both stand in for me on doing your best on promoting Brett to remain as the the starting QB for the Jets. Go Jets Go
My feelings are that, in the past Bret would have “GB” sit because it was a game with them, one willing to be played. We New Yorkers we don’t go for that “BS” and if he had an ounce of professionalism he would annouce today and not play one of those good ole boys gags and come forward and be a man of his word. He’s got a lil to much ego that he’s not showing but we know it’s there. Thats why they call it one hit wonders! and he had his chance and it’s done! The Jets have been doing this for years and it “F”ing blows my mind. Wht they think that these guys ala Art monk and Ronnie Lott and those names that come to mind. These guys are “DONE” and only came to the Jets for that last paycheck, and the sad thing is that Mr.Hess was willing to write that check???? He’s done finshed not interested in playing for the jets??? Good ole boy in the big Apple??? And “Penny” was anther good ole boy, he knew that if he didn’t take the pay-cut he was getting cut! There’s some realy good “QBs” out there in the draft, one’s that would die to play in the biggest arena in sports the New York market!
Go Home Bret to your loving wife and your loveing dog the lovin is over here in NYC!
I still think he is going to retire and I think Alex’s points are pretty much dead on. The thing is, if Brett really wanted to be stubborn he could drag it out and force the Jets to make a move, before risking a cap hit. He might not be so easy to trade, so I don’t know how much the Jets could really get for him. I don’t know that any of this will come into play, but methinks it could get a little too interesting for our liking if one of these scenarios begin to develop.
Colour 1
Its not easy to play in the NY city sports world.Giant stadium is a joke, home field means nearly nothing at the meadow lands. The wind is terrible, the fans are most of the time in a coma.Fans love you hate you all in the same week.
40 years of failure will tell you something.I guess its
like Jersey and NY people everyone is moving but no one is going anywhere.Winning teams have great fans, loosing teams have Jet fans.
Dan..You are the only LOSER on this blog. You are a man without a team. A man/boy idolizer. You don’t even know who you will be rooting for tomorrow. If and when Favre finally retires you will be looking for a team to root for. You leach on to any blog that says anything negative about the man you idolize. You are what is known in the sports world as a “FAIR WEATHER FAN”. I hope you enjoy your trip to Cali. Get some sun and relax. Because nobody really cares what you do. Your last post says exactly who you are. A LOSER!!!A POSER!!!A MAN WITHOUT A TEAM1111
Joe b thanks for your well wishes.Maybe while I’m away you could maybe start your own Blog, you can call it TALK FOR NOTHING “WHAT SAY YOU”.You would probably get some great guests like Eric. You get a Jets doll as your mascot and every now and then you could wind it up.Caution its going to stink real bad. What say you !!!!!
How about I call it “Brett, What say you”
Dan, I’m sorry, but your’s are the most infantile posts on this forum. You know absolutely nothing about Jets fans.
Here’s what Brett was like around this time one year ago:
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/brett_favre_still_taking
Ridiculous.
If he can take all the time he needs, he could let the jets know in May..
What a load of Bunk.
“Oh please, Mr. Favre, come and take our $12 million bucks, but take as much time as you’d like to decide.”
there are younger, eager, trainable, vitale QB’s being
churned out every day.
he should be cut from the team.
Dan is just a frustrated antagonist. He has no friends to talk to. So this is his only outlet. Lets hope he keeps posting his infantile remarks. He’s like a STALKER on the internet. Go Dan Go.
Dan and joe b – do we have to separate you two?
Jane, for the record – Favre never missed any offseason workouts with the Packers. He attended every mini-camp and all that. Like most players, he lives elsewhere.
Dan is gone! Dan is gone! Now it is time for the real Jet fans to blog.
Did I say that Dan is gone??......He’s gone. Maybe he will become a fan of another tram for a year while he is out there. Or maybe he’ll find another sports figure to have an unhealthy man crush on.
