Woody and Spags met Tuesday

January
15

Woody Johnson, who was out of the country for the start of the Jets coaching search, has conducted the follow up interview with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. It happened on Tuesday at Johnson’s Manhattan office, but Spags’ agent apparently didn’t want it to be public at the time. Spagnuolo is being interviewed by the Rams and Lions for head coaching vacancies there.

The Jets coaching search, however, is ongoing said a source close to the team.

Spagnuolo’s team (as New York fans are undoubtedly aware) is out of the playoffs. That means that the Jets could make him an offer if he were there No. 1 choice. They have not, so a conclusion is not difficult to draw there.

Why wait… unless you are looking to hire someone whose team is still alive in the playoffs—such as Baltimore D.C. Rex Ryan. (Whether or not he keeps Brian Schottenheimer on as offensive coordinator.)

Well, I suppose we could all be jumping to conclusions, but I’m betting with the consensus, that the likely choice is Ryan. I would already be betting on Pittsburgh in a very close game, but I’m especially rooting for that outcome now, so we can put the suspense to rest. Aside from a mysterious QB situation, this team is still built to win in the short-term. Ryan appears well suited to work with the defensive personnel they have in house. The sooner we get on with it, the better. I think most of the other coaching choices represent a much more radical reconstruction and I’m not ready to accept that just yet.

Jane..I can see it now. If the JETS wanted Spags they would have offered him a contract by now. This is typical JETS. I can’t wait for Tannanbaums press conference for when they do hire somebody. It will go like this. “Um welcome everybody. Um after a lengthly um search um we feel um that the um man we chose um is the best um choice for the JETS um future. Woody and I um really um discussed what was best um for the team before um making this um decision. So, lets not wait um any longer um here is your new um coach, our friend um Bernie Madoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
