good point about the game planning. No one is solely blaming the QB.

Erik
I agree with you. Brett made some bad throws. He will do that when he feels he has to make a play and everyone is not playing well. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. My point was that Brett shouldn't get all the blame. The interceptions are not the reason the jets didn't make the playoffs. This was a total team collaspe. I really believe the coaching had a bigger part in the collaspe than any of the players. The coaches should have been able to design some routes to help out the receivers. It appeared that they were all double covered all the time while the opposing offense seemed to have all their receivers wide open all the time. At the very least call a balanced game plan. There were times when I could guess what the next play was going to be. Never a good sign when fans can guess the next play.

Ann - It's hard to adjust to the ball when it is thrown directly at a defender or into double or triple coverage. I've already said it's not all his fault, but let's not say that it was just due to the line and his injury that he stunk down the stretch. He made some awful decisions......That being said, I agree with you that we need another receiver. Ideally we need a faster guy with some height to him.

Erik
As I said the game plans were the worst I'd ever seen. That is what worries me about Shotty getting the HC job. Were the game plans and play calling him or did mangini influence it? If it were him, it would be scary to have shotty as head coach. Why couldn't the offense adjust to what the defenses were doing in the 2nd half of games. Again was this shotty or mangine?

Erik
The qb would have been up to the task had he not been constantly sacked or hit and had the receivers been able to get even a step on the defense. Please give me one receiver that can adjust to a throw. Jones ran well at times and at other times didn't just like Favre threw well at times and at other times didn't. Part of that was he was hurt, part was the lack of protection. You seem to just want to put all the blame on the Qb rather than on the whole team which is were it should be.

They abdonded the run when they were only down 10 - 3 to Seattle. Seattle kept muffing opportunities. The Jets weren't out of it until real late in the 4th. There is no way you leave the only thing that was working.....But that is the past. Let us look toward the future.

one more observation- even though I don't think the jets should have abandoned the run, I understand why they did. Our defense couldn't stop anyone. they made seneca wallace and sean hill look like hall of fame qb's. When you play from behind and the defense can't get off the field teams will abandon the run. Although jones had 5yds per carry in seattle, he couldn't convert on 3down when he had the opportunity. I'm not knocking Jones, just like I'm not knocking Favre, the whole team needs to take responsibility along with the coaches

Brett missed training camp and ota's because he hadn't been traded yet. If he doesn't retire, he'll be there. As far as Jones running for 5yds per carry against seattle, I agree with you. the coaches abandoned the running game which I didn't understand because your qb was hurt. the game plans the jets had were the worst I'd ever seen with the exception of the NE game and the Titans game. After those games the plans were horrible. There were some sporatic drives that were good but not whole games. Look at the buffalo game. the opening drive was brilliant. The 2nd drive started out good and then the pass that bounced off LC's hands and foot for an int. After that the jets couldn't adjust and seemed out of sync. What happened. Did Mangini panic as was suggested here? did his panic filter down to the offensive coaches. It would seem it did with the lack of adjustments the jets were able to make and the lack of any cohesive game plan. My point is that no one did their job well after the titans game. Not the players, not the coaches. When your team isn't ready to play and can't execute and can't adjust, there is a serious coaching problem. Too much talent on this team for it to have fallen apart this way.

Jane,
This whole Cowher story is wierd. If Cowher reallt wanted to comeback and coach the Jets would have reached out to him. Why waste everybodys time? I still think it comes down to Schotty or Ryan. I just have a bad feel about Spags. Is he a product of the talent he has? I guess we will find out.
