Jets sold to Devil?

Bob Herbert of the NY Times, a long-suffering Jets fan, has a funny column today on whether the Jets were sold to the Devil in exchange for Joe Namath’s Super Bowl win.
My random thought of the day is that, given Teddy Atlas’ comments about Jets owner Woody Johnson (see previous post if you haven’t seen them), Eric Mangini is getting a second look from the fans. Considering that the veteran coaches like Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher aren’t even interviewing with the Jets, Mangini starts to look better than the next young up-and-comer.
Unfortunately, Mangini’s in-game decisions were the problem. Leaving points off the board against Seattle with conservative calls on 4th and 1 in the first drive and later keeping Jay Feely from attempting the 50-yarder after making the 45-yarder on a kick called for a delay penalty. The opening drives were often good, but in-game adjustments were weak in the last five games.
As for Johnson, the Jets owner is out of the country and did not take part in interviews with Bill Callahan and Brian Schottenheimer, which is understandable given his familiarity with them. But he is also not there for today’s meeting with Steve Spagnuolo. The Giants defensive coordinator is being interviewed by just about every team with a vacancy. The Jets might have to go hard for him if they want him, and not having the owner there is… no good.
Update 3:46 p.m.: Johnson is expected to return on Monday, and is in regular contact with GM Mike Tannenbaum by phone. But still.

Great article…I think he may be on to something.
Interesting…If the soul selling took place, I wonder if Namath, stopped and said,
“I want to kiss you” to the devil?
I love broadway Joe and his alcoholic ways
(conversation with Daddy at Bedtime)
Zach: Daddy, tell me again how I got my middle name
Eric: Not now son, I just ate.

Erik Sec. 309. It’s like the old Red Buttons’ song. Strange things are happening, “just when you thought you were outta here, they pull you back in” You know how I felt early in the season. But they sucked me back in with that 5 game win streak. This is a cursed franchise. Sometimes I think Joe Namath sold his soul to the devil and we will pay for that for the rest of our lives. For the next three weeks every J*E*T*S fan will be wondering which team will show up. Plus we very rarely have beaten Buffalo twice in a season. Our dreams started with Miami and can end on the same note. Being a J*E*T*S fan is light putting you future in a Lottery ticket. How quickly the season we have waited so long for with such great optimism is coming to such a realistic end.
