Favre tells Tanny, “It’s time.”

January

Peter King is reporting that Brett Favre sounds like he will not be coming back to the Jets next year. King reports that Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum told Favre to take as much time as he needs to decide, and that he wasn’t going to ask for a decision the Monday after the loss to Miami because he knew what Favre’s answer would be.

Favre told him, “it may be time to look in a different direction.’’

I haven’t seen Favre in a week, but that tone certainly corresponds with what I saw from Favre the last week of the season. He seemed worn and ready for the exit. I know that Favre changes his mind pretty frequently, and that Tannenbaum does not want to deal with the quarterback until a new coach is in place, but I would be surprised to see him return.

On the Monday that Favre told Tannenbaum it might be time, Favre did not appear in the locker room or address the media. My interpretation was that both the QB and Jets management were afraid he’d be too clear with his intentions, and they wanted to put out one fire at a time.

Update 11:16: While you are watching San Diego-Colts in OT, the Daily News is reporting that Cardinals assistant head coach Russ Grimm will interview with the Jets, and the Star-Ledger names Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski as another candidate.

Boy, if only the Jets had Phil Rivers….or LT…..or Norv Turner??..
Ok so I’m not sure if Norv turner is the answer.

But lets see if anyone is willing to trade a top draft pick to the Jets in order for them to get a pick like Rivers, or Manning

Give Clemens a chance, now that McCareins won’t be dropping his passes and he has a decent o line in front of him.

I think we need real good insurance behind Clemens. We have a team that, maybe with a new coaching regime can do some things. we will need a consistant QB to lead the way…......By the way – Why didn’t the Cardinals run the ball the entire year? They looked like a much better team last night. It is refreshing to see good game planning and scheming by a coaching staff.

Two big mistakes the Jets made this year was getting Favre and not trading down and taking Flaco.

Please search hard for a new coach. I prefer a former head coach. Here are the records of former coaches for the NY Titans/Jets. Only 1 asst. coach had a winning record. Al Groh and he split after 1 season.# Name Term Regular season Playoffs Awards Reference

Billick has been announced as a candidate by NFL news. I could live with him being named coach. What are his negatives? Reputedly he has a big ego, but the NY (NJ) stage is big enough for it. What are his other down sides?
