Mangini on Favre

December
18

Eric Mangini addressed the observation that quarterback Brett Favre didn’t see much action during the part of the Wednesday practice that reporters are allowed to see.

“We do the same thing as the season goes on, we did it with Chad (Pennington), as we try to limit the amount of throws for each day,” Mangini said. “During the early part of practice a lot of that is (dedicated to) routes, not that we all don’t need to work on those individual techniques, but in terms of throws that we have allocated throughout the course of the day, we target those specific plays that we feel he needs to get the look the most on. He did work on the tackling drill, I don’t know if you noticed that (smiling). He looked a lot better in the tackling drill than he did on Sunday.”

He also handed out some team awards.

“The Dennis Byrd Award for the most inspirational player on the team went to Thomas Jones,” Mangini said. “The Marty Lyons Award for charity work and work in the community went to Tony Richardson. The Kyle Clifton Good Guy Award went to Abram Elam. The Ed Block Courage Award went to Jerricho Cotchery. The Curtis Martin MVP went to Thomas Jones.”

And if you missed the chat Giants writer Mike Dougherty and I had (and it was great, lots of Jets questions from pg) then click here to watch a replay. When the Nov. video of Mike starts playing, click the “on demand” button and you’ll get the option of watching today’s broadcast.

Update, 4 p.m.: Maybe I worry too much, but the Jets are scheduled to fly out tomorrow afternoon. Check the weather report, and the blizzard of ‘08 is set to be rumbling through at about that time. Could fate give the Jets a Saturday departure? Stay tuned…

Update II 4:15: The only change for the Jets on the injury report is that Wayne Hunter (shoulder) was added to the limited list.

  1. Frustration mounting

    And as promised…no awful sweater…thanks!
I think Mangini is side-stepping the issue.
Chad had a bad arm, and thats why it made sense to save him, but Brett is supposed to have a rifle…

    Jane,

Much better from the point at which I could actually HEAR what you were saying! I have to think that going before a camera took a little courage. Have you ever been part of a broadcast before?

Ok, everyone: Stop worrying about Favre’s arm!

Really. He had one underthrown ball becuase he was hurried and stepped into his own guy. Did you see the mustard he had on the thing all day?

    Lasers.

Many, many things to worry about before you worry about ol’ Brett’s arm.

    Jane,
Great job on the broadcast once the mike was up and running.

Enjoyed watching the discussion and look forward to seeing more.

Jane, I agree – that was cool. I hope you’ll do more and I hope lots more people will participate.

Thanks for all the feedback, and for checking out our first joint effort with that. I have done some TV before, Alex, back when The Journal News was affiliated with an RNN newscast. And some random stuff as a talking head.

Not sure I saw the question about the unis, Colour1. The Jets sell jerseys through their own site if that’s what you mean.

    Thanks again!
