Win 5, lose 2

December
7

It’s hard to score when you don’t have the ball. In the 24-14 loss to San Francisco, the Jets had the ball for 20 minutes and 11 seconds and were 1 for 10 on third down. The 49ers had the ball for 39:49. Quarterback Brett Favre said it wasn’t a confidence issue.

“Our confidence, I don’t know how it will be tomorrow,” Favre said. “We have a long trip back, but we need to continue to stick together and get back to the way we were playing seven weeks ago.”

Something, however, has changed. Those wins over Buffalo, New England and the Titans have been overshadowed by two odd losses to Denver and San Francisco. The Jets had 123 yards passing to the 49ers’ 275. In both losses, Favre has gotten shown up by novice quarterbacks.

The Jets (8-5) have lost the edge in the AFC East. Technically they are still in first place because they have a slightly better in-league winning percentage, but with games against Buffalo and Miami coming up as the season winds down, that could change. Especially if the league has wised up to the schemes Denver and San Francisco used to beat the Jets—short crisp passes and pressuring the secondary.

Bright spot: Thomas Jones scored, which brings his totals to 14 for the season, which ties him for first place with four former Jets including Curtis Martin. He also ties Martin for 12 rushing touchdowns in a season. And he ties with Santana Moss for most consecutive games with touchdowns, at seven.

Other stuff: David Harris was back and played a lot. Brad Smith took a nasty hit in the fourth quarter but walked off the field.

How can a team with so much on the line be so badly outcoached, outplayed and outhustled? I really thought after the Tennessee game that this Jet team was different, however it is apparent that these are the same old pathetic Jets. Which team can we honestly say that the Jets will beat if they even make it to the playoffs? Baltimore – no. Indy – no. NE – ?...............This is sad.

Often times I question why I actually care so much.

The Jets have to stop the run and pressure the quarterback. The failure to do so has allowed the opponent to control the game.

Favre’s receivers are being covered very closely. There are three things he can do. Use play-action passes, throw to the outside shoulder on passes down the sidelines, and intentionally throw short on long passes. The first forces the defenders to think run first, the second and third cause an aggressive d-back to run himself out of the play. These three changes turned Eli’s season around last year and will do the same for Favre.

Erik Sec. 309. It’s like the old Red Buttons’ song. Strange things are happening, “just when you thought you were outta here, they pull you back in” You know how I felt early in the season. But they sucked me back in with that 5 game win streak. This is a cursed franchise. Sometimes I think Joe Namath sold his soul to the devil and we will pay for that for the rest of our lives. For the next three weeks every J*E*T*S fan will be wondering which team will show up. Plus we very rarely have beaten Buffalo twice in a season. Our dreams started with Miami and can end on the same note. Being a J*E*T*S fan is light putting you future in a Lottery ticket. How quickly the season we have waited so long for with such great optimism is coming to such a realistic end.

I’m just grateful I had to be somewhere else yesterday afternoon and couldn’t even listen to the radio feed. This game had to be one of the biggest flops of the entire NFL season.

PS…Jane…Thanks for trying to lift our spirits. However, there were no bright spots!!!!! in this game. Another pathetic showing.

What about Kerry Rhodes, seems to me he has not done much at all this season after two very good years. If you notice he is always the one jumping up and down after a play because he is mad. I want to see him smacking guys!

Its hard for a guy over 300 lbs to disappear, but thats what Kris Jenkins has done. Quite the magician. What happened to the famed run defense??
But really its the secondary that has gotten torched by mediocre QB’s on opposing clubs. Lowery…GONE!! TAKE A SEAT. Is deion Sanders under 50 years old, I’d rather have him.

For whatever reason in the previous games, the Jets came out and exerted influence from the start, hurry up, quick offense, quick strikes. These last 2 games, are plodding, confused jets. Why are we punting on the opening drive, after recovering an onsides kick, from THEIR 40 yard line??
Again, a good team, can get 2 yards.

I have 3 other phases of the game Mangini needs to consider, Coaching, coaching, and coaching.

Its like playing chutes and ladders.
    2 steps forward, 1 step back…
Why the jets keep losing to bad teams is discouraging.
and its somehow more discouraging than beating good teams
    is encouraging.
Talk about a Bailout, mangini should voluntarily
offer to work for $1, if he can’t right this ship

jonathan swift…How about quitting, quitting, and quitting for Mangini.

I am so sick of the garbage that spew’s out of Manigini’s mouth…..”We had lost opportunities”....C’mon, we should never have lost to that team – no matter how well they’re playing.

Why does a 4-8 team seem way more pumped to play than us? Aren’t we fighting for playoff positioning? Does the Mangenius need boxing trainers to pump his team up? It’s apparent he can’t do it himself. It would be nice to see him show some emotion rather than that stupid scowl he wears.

He tries the entire Belichick mantra with one fault….He is not 30% of the coach Bill is. You just knew as the Jets plodded around the field in a bewildered state, that the Pats would come back and win that game.

These last three games and the playoffs (if we’re that lucky) should be Mangini’s job on the line.
