In-game observations….

Bad wireless connection here at Gillette Stadium, but I’ll add what I can as the game goes along.
Pats DB Ray Ventrone was knocked in the chin on the opening kickoff and is questionable to return.
Ty Law on Randy Moss. How do you like that matchup?
Direct snap to WR Brad Smith for 17 yards. You could see he liked that play.
Good night for TE Dustin Keller until he dropped the four-yard TD pass, and then the next pass was incomplete.
Jets up 10-3 and scoring on the first two drives. Now it’s 10-6 Jets with 9:44 left in the second quarter, but notably the Jets haven’t allowed a touchdown in the two drives the Pats have scored on.
OK, so who here is voting Leon Washington for MVP? He just had a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. A lot speedy. He started off the game with a 30-yard kickoff return, which now seems decidedly less dramatic. Jets up 17-6 with 9:32 to go in the first half.
The home town fans do not see things going their way here. Jerricho Cotchery just had what was ruled a catch for 46 yards (and a pass interference penalty), catching the ball on his helmet a la David Tyree for the Giants last year in the Super Bowl. Thomas Jones had a one-yard run, and then Cotchery scored on a 15-yard catch, reaching the ball over the end zone line. Two heads-up plays in a row for Cotchery. Jets up 24-6 with 4:57 left to play in the second half.
So that’s the Coles challenge, the Cotchery catch and TD that needed official rulings.
Rookie cornerback Dwight Lowery got beat in the end zone by Jabar Gaffney for the Pats lone touchdown of the half, a 19-yarder. The Jets had a hand in breaking up the three attempts prior. So, after a half it’s Jets up 24-13.

Jane McManus

Big mistake Mangini sitting on the ball before the half. The offense was hot. He needed to go for more points. Instead he gave the Pats a chance to score and then have possession at the beginning of the second half. Bellichick is a master at the double possession (end of the first half, beginning of the second half). Mangini’s action seems to have changed the momentum of the game.
HA!!!!!
I knew Mangini could never win a big game.
The entire game they had been sticking Moss on the line of scrimmage.
On the key moment, Law backs of Moss….and he catches the ball.
Mangini snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
Favre looks soooo pissed.
How can the Pats march 80 yards in 45 seconds.
ridiculous.
“Prevent defense, prevents you from winning” – C. Collinsworth on the TV broadcast
24-6…........
Who made the half time adjustments????
Good coach, vs. Bad coach….
Instead of Favre we should have gotten a new coach…
Poor Woody Johnson, he must be having an anyeurism
Favre just got sacked.
perfect.
ok – so its on the 20…
I can’t wait for feely to line up, and shank a 30 yarder..
Or do you wait and try for more yards, and wait for Favre to throw an INT
I am such a pessimist
The kick is up
The kick is up….
shocking
Well, in the midst of what has been a personally brutal work week, the Jets tortured me, but rewarded me for staying up to the finish. They didn’t make it easy, but they got away with it. I can go to bed happy, now.
“Way out and we go”, Jets fans!
meant to say “way out and up we go”...but it’s an obscure reference anyways
Kerry Rhodes is MVP….for calling Tails in the overtime coin flip
Jane,Great job. I’m living in Miami but am a life long Titan-Jet Fan(that long!) .If you want to laugh, listen to Miami Radio (790-The Ticket) online tomorrow. Dolphin fans obsessions with the Jets and Jets Fans are priceless. Anytime between 10AM and 3 PM will do. You won’t believe what you hear. I can’t wait until Dec.28 when I go back for a visit and watch us squish them fish in person and solidify our playoff position. I have your Jet coverage bookmarked right with the big boys and much appreciate what you do. Take care,Bo Healey
Miloslav, you are a pathetic fan. Stop blogging and watch the game. Doesn’t matter how you win. Just win the game. Nice job Mangini.
Phil- I’m rubber, you’re….just a blind Jet fan, which is fine if you like fairies and elves..
How many breaks did the Jets get, and still nearly coughed away this game.
Forget about all the injuries the Pats have.
In this game, there were two consecutive holding penalties which saved a TD drive for the Jets which were total non-calls
Lowery had an interception bounce off his shoulder pads, and was burned all night.
The Jets had Jenkins out of the game, on purpose, until finally someone realized he could play the nickel too. duh.
Matt Cassell had 400+ yards of passing…Did Reves, or Rhodes, or Pace make one play all day??
If Belechek goes for the field goal, instead of going for it on 4th down, the game is over.
We are in first, its great..but do we have to play the Raiders again….no but we have Seattle… If they beat Tennessee next week, I would be far more surprised than if they lose to the Seahawks.
Phil – start talking when the Jets are in the Play-offs.
As a Jet fan, I prefer to ignore the fact that yet again we were severely outcoached in the 2nd half. I’ll focus on a huge win…..Let’s just try to savor some of this good feeling and bring it into Tennessee.
By the way, Collinsworth is a fraud. Bruschi was holding him on the goal line and that corner back nearly tackled Thomas Jones (would’ve been an easy td).
I’m gonna take this mood with me to the Garden tonight as I watch the Knicks try and go 6-3 – now that’s bizzaro world!
FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about “blind”! Miloslav’s “non-calls” were easy calls for the refs, and the refs had it right each time. You hold somebody past five yards and a flag SHOULD come out. The second one was even easier to call, as Erik points out. I get the feeling that only a Jets’ loss would’ve made MM happy! The Jets are in first and MM is unhappy about it. Go figure.
I never thought it would be great to eat crow, but right now it tastes pretty good. Never in my wildest dreams did I foresee this scenario. However the been there done that issue still haunts me. Next weeks game will tell if they are contenders or pretenders. Brett seems to be in a zone right now. And where are all the fans who knocked the Dustin Keller pick at the draft. I thought it was a great pick and stated at the time that he could possibly be another Tony Gonzalez type TE. Well, let me get back to my crow drumsticks. GO J*E*T*S
[...] Jane McManus has some great in-game observations. [...]
Lowery needs to be replaced.
Not only did he get burned repeatedly.
He got hit in the front of the shoulder with a Matt Cassell pass, and it bounced off him.
can’t make those kind of mistkes against the Patriot A team.
or their equivalent….not the team we played last night..
Miloslav,
I know it’s hard but try and say one thing positive about the team.
