Law arrives

November
11

Ty Law was in his No. 22 Jets uniform before practice this morning. The Jets waived CB Justin Miller to make space for him. The former free agent said he’d been talking to both the Jets and Patriots before coming to terms yesterday on a one-year deal with the Jets.

Law will not necessarily start. Jets coach Eric Mangini characterized him as a role player, but Law will almost certainly play Thursday. As far as whether he will affect team chemistry, Mangini didn’t think so.

“This morning when he went in there it was like he was running for mayor,” Mangini said.

Law hasn’t gotten the Jets media training yet, and he was pretty candid about how much Mangini takes after his former mentor, Pats coach Bill Belichick, revealing that Mangini’s nickname was “Little Bill.” Ouch.

Here he talks about the Jets-Pats rivalry in the Belichick era.

CB Darrelle Revis grew up in the same small town Law did, and the veteran was his mentor all along. The two families are still pretty tight in Aliquippa, Pa., where they both grew up and played in high school. They used to laugh about the possibility of playing on the same team but, as Revis said, when you see Brett Favre walk into the locker room then anything is possible.

Revis, who wears Law’s #24, said the newcomer didn’t ask for the number (and probably wouldn’t have gotten it). So Law will go with a number he wore in college. That AP photo above is of Law’s first time with the Jets, when he set the single-season interceptions record with 10 and was named to the 2005 pro Bowl.

The locker room gods have placed Law right next to rookie CB Dwight Lowery, by the way. I guess the open locker by Favre was too far away. But if you are Lowery, I guess you take the high road and try not to snarl every time Law sprays his aerosol deoderant too close.

Hopefully, the Pats will be singing that old Clash song on Thursday.
“I fought the Law, and the Law won”.

Lets hope he still has a few gmes left in him

Role player rather than starter sounds about right. We’ll see how he does, but seems worth the risk.
