Clowney waiting to play

David Clowney is healthy, but he’s not playing. We had the story, which starts below, today.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The other day, Brett Favre was walking to his car at the Jets’ practice facility, when he ran into wide receiver David Clowney. The two played together in Green Bay, and Clowney had a simple question for the veteran quarterback.
“Can I get a touchdown pass from you before you retire man, please?” Clowney said.
It has been a frustrating few months for Clowney. He impressed at training camp, launching himself downfield to make long, striding catches in the heat of early August. Then during a preseason game against Washington, Clowney broke his right collarbone.
He was well enough to play in mid-October, but Jets coach Eric Mangini has listed him as one of the inactives for each successive game.
It isn’t so much a referendum on Clowney, but more that the other receivers all fit a niche – Chansi Stuckey, Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are strong components, and Wallace Wright is one of the best special-teams players. Not that it’s consolation for Clowney.
