Jets beat Bills 26-17

November
2

No, you aren’t reading that wrong. A completely different Jets team emerged from the Buffalo tunnel. There was only one interception, and it made Brett Favre nervous but the Jets never gave up a half time lead. There were a few penalties and one missed field goal before halftime, but those mistakes didn’t kill the Jets.

“The game was important because it was a division game,” Jets coach Eric Mangini said, “it was a chance for us to play a division opponent on the road knowing that they’re a good team.”

The Jets are now 5-3 and legitimately in the mix for the AFC East lead with wins over Miami and Buffalo. I’ll be adding audio from Mangini and Favre, and probably Kris Jenkins—he had two of the Jets five sacks—and Darelle Revis. Revis had a huge sack and fumble recovery in the first quarter, and intercepted the ball in the fourth quarter to kill the Bills’ final drive.

Here’s Revis on Jenkins’ impact.

Forget Favre and Laveranues Coles—Revis may be managing his position better than any of them.

Here is Favre talking about his nerves getting back on the field after his pick was returned for a touchdown and got the 71,827 in the crowd screaming.

By the way, turns out it was Woody Johnson who was tackled by Brad Smith before the game. Good thing the Jets owner has a sense of humor. “It was a light hit,” Johnson said afterwards. “I said, is that the best you can do?”

Gholston met with LT: First round pick Vernon Gholston met with former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor recently to talk about how Gholston is developing in the 3-4 defense. It hasn’t been easy, and he missed another key tackle on special teams early yesterday. But he benefitted from L.T.’s words. “Going back to his rookie year and his development as a player,” Gholston said. “More so reassure me I was on the right track so just keep going.” The two might meet again. “He left it open,” Gholston said.

Jenkins is the key to the defense. Great run defense today. Luckily Brett’s big mistake didn’t come back to kill us because we finally saw the run blocking that we needed on that final drive. Hopefully we can keep it going. LETS GO JETS!

Who would have predicted this result?
After losing to the Dolphins last weekend, I think the Bills lost some luster.
But its still the most complete game the Jets have put in so far.

I hope Mangini is not overly happy, because there was still sloppy play out there

I keep thinking, what were the Giants like at this point last year?

These Jets are a work in progress. Lots of mistakes in every phase of the game. But they’re still learning to play together.

I hope the coaching staff can keep up.

Do you think Mangini is the problem solver Coughlin is?

Do you think the Jets have the Defense the Giants did?
Remember in the superbowl they stuffed the Pats, and Brady was the QB.
The jets chocked against the Kassel-led Pats 3 weeks ago.

They are improved, but lets not make any title predictions yet.

How big is that Loss to the Raiders now?
(Yes those Raiders…that had -2 yards passing in the first
half of their 24-0 loss yesterday)

It would have been sweet to see the jets alone atop the division, if only for one week.

    What I call…fantasy football…
