Smith is active, Montgomery cut

October
14

S Eric Smith was activated after his one game suspension, and OL Will Montgomery was waived to make room for him. Rutgers product Brandon Renkart, LB, was also released from the practice squad.

22jets1600.jpg Just because Smith (No. 33 in an AP photo) was activated doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be ready to play against Oakland. He sustained a hit to the head that knocked him unconscious and he suffered memory loss. Although Eric Mangini didn’t use the word concussion (and my medical license has not yet been issues), you don’t need a degree to wonder if he will be ready to return yet.

Mangini has not expressed any caution about his condition, but we should know more tomorrow when Smith could practice with the team. Here is a link to an earlier post about the hit and fine, with some audio of Smith the next day.
