Middle name: Brett

Eric Mangini came into the press room still wearing his hospital bracelet and, when pressed, told us the middle name of his baby boy: Zack Brett Mangini.

It was part of the negotiations when QB Brett Favre was coming to New York, it’s just a coincidence that Zack was born on Brett’s birthday. The littlest Mangini was born by cesarean section at 7:43 a.m. and weighed 7 lbs., 13 ozs. and was 20 inches long.

“It’s pretty cool that it happened on his birthday,” Mangini said.

The family has a history of giving their boys middle names which honor someone in football. 4-year-old Jake Harrison was named for Rodney Harrison and 2-year-old Luke William was named after Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

When asked about the danger of naming a child after a person when that relationship might not work out—Mangini and Belichick are no longer friendly—Mangini said it didn’t worry him.

“To me it’s about the experiences, the meaning, the background, the history and that’s what it meant at the time and that never changes,” Mangini said.

So, are we to believe that if the Jets hadn’t gotten Brett,
