Couple of things gleaned from today’s practice out at Florham Park.
Safety Eric Smith is appealinghis $50,000 fine and one-game suspension, according to Jets coach Eric Mangini. Smith tackled Cardinal WR Anquan Boldin, and the helmet-to-helmet hit sent both to the ground, and Smith was unconscious and doesn’t remember the play or what happened afterwards which is often indicative of a concussion.
If Smith’s appeal is successful, the Jets will have to cut someone from the roster. If not, the practice squad can exhale. Of the possible concussion, Mangini also said, “I don’t anticipate any issues in terms of him playing, it would be more suspension-based.”
WR Laveranues Coles, who (I will be diplomatic about this) is one of the few Jets who can be difficult to interview IMHO, spoke today. The writers, who didn’t want to miss the moment, crowded around the locker to get the quotes. Since Brett Favre is right next door, it was one of the few times the QB has been crowded out of his space.
At the start of the interview, Favre grabbed a fake mic and asked Coles his own question. here’s an audio clip of that moment.
And lastly, S Kerry Rhodes bought his mom a house and went home to Bessemer Ala. over the break to check it out with her. Awww….

Ha, nice to see they’re getting along.
I had thought the NFL were leaders in the analysis of Concussive injury. It might be the NHL. Although Mangini is notorious for saying nothing about his players, I hope that their medical staff has looked into his condition more closely.
How has Bolden’s condition changed?
