Graham is out

Apparently Eric Mangini meant it yesterday when he said he was exploring all options when it came to punter Ben Graham.
“It’s a situation we’ll look at,” Mangini said Monday, after a 19-10 loss to the Patriots in the home opener. “We’ll look at it very closely, then we’ll move forward here (and) see where the different opportunities are and evaluate them.”
Today, the Jets waived Graham and released WR Paul Raymond from the practice squad. They have not announced a new punter, but it will not be Jeremy Kapinos, the punter the team had in during OTAs and at the end of last season.
Special teams were a glaring weakness against Miami, and Graham averaged only 27.3 net yards in the outing. Graham, 34, had been a member of the Jets since 2005. Last year, he was benched for a game and Kapinos came in and played well enough to be kept on the team through the spring.
With kicker Mike Nugent out, replacement Jay Feely missing his first field goal attempt in Miami, it looks as though Mangini is trying to iron out the wrinkles on special teams before more damage is done.
*And over in Miami, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano says that Chad Pennington is the QB—no competition. Read the Miami Herald’s story here.
