Clowney to miss a few games

August

David Clowney has missed practice since a collision last Saturday took him out of a game against Washington. Jets coach Eric Mangini wouldn’t elaborate on the nature of the inury other than to say it was to his shoulder, but Clowney’s agent Brian Mackler said Clowney shouldn’t be out for the season.

It’s good news for the wide receiver, who had one of the best training camps out of all the Jets, even according to Mangini.

“I thought he had an excellent training camp,” Mangini said. “I think that, to me he’s like (Brett) Ratliff at quarterback. A guy who came in and who started a little bit slower and had a lot of really good concepts. Physically really worked at it. Mentally really worked at it…. You could see the results of that work translating into the games.”

Does that mean the Jets will be carrying Clowney on their 53 man roster?

Good question. Mangini won’t even get into that yet and I would venture even they couldn’t say at this point. He could still be released, but if his recovery is a finite time rather than something longer and drawn out, he can better make his case to stay.

I couldn’t even begin to fathom why they would be foolish enough to cut a player of his caliber. If he mends quickly enough, I think he will get his opportunities to stretch a few secondaries this year.

  4. IRA

Clowney will almost certain be put on the PUP list and then the Jets have 6 weeks to either activate him or place him on IR for the year. No way will they cut him.
