Jets purge three

As they start to sign draft picks like Nate Garner and Marcus Henry, the Jets have to cut players to maintain that 80 player roster. And, after checking players out at the mandatory minicamp, today they have made some moves.
Punter Jeremy Kapinos (who I wrote about last month), kicker Mark Myers and wide receiver Chris Davis were waived.
Punter Joe Smith and wide receiver Ashlan Davis were signed. Smith was a D II All American from Central Washington, while Davis has played two seasons in the Canadian Football League (40 catches, 476 yards and three TDs).
This year it will be harder for the dropped players to get picked up elsewhere. Each player has five fewer roster spots to give since the dissolution of NFL Europe. In the past, a team could waive those five players to play overseas.
The Jets have 84 players on the roster now, and will have to drop four as they sign each of the remaining draft picks.

They actually have 83—Nick Jarvis was waived yesterday when Marcus Henry officially signed.
And your explanation of the NFL Europe system is inaccurate. When NFL Europe was still around, teams could “allocate” (not “waive”—the players stayed on their NFL team) UP TO six players to NFL Europa, and receive a roster exemption on their 80-man roster for each. However, if teams did not allocate six players to NFLE, then they only received the number of exemptions equal to the number of players they allocated. Teams could also receive an NFL Europe “bonus exemption” for each player they allocated who was either on the team’s 53-man roster for at least 3 games or on the team’s practice squad for at least 6 games in the previous season. In that sense, teams could get up to 12 possible exemptions.
Thanks Jane for the update on Dustin. I was rooting for the punter to get a job but with so many players some guys have to be left out and a punter is a job with a very thin line. Good Luck to him elsewhere. Thanks again.
Chris Baker must be traded or cut, and soon. This “he said, she said” cannot be good for this team. Good riddance – you are mediocre at best anyway. Bad luck with the Patriots, Chris.
I’m starting to see where these players are coming from. 1.65 million dollars to play 20 games of football is just not enough money. As a matter of and support of these players, I just told my boss I wasn’t working for a mere $40.00 an hour anymore. I told him when he wanted me back to call me at home to disguss the raise. I mean enough is enough. Thanks Chris for giving me the b&%*s to tell my boss what I think.
Hi, Chris. My boss just got back to me with his answer. Do you know anybody who will hire an average salesman. I mean I had my best year last year. I was the 30th most productive salesman in my group of 64 employees. Call me between the hours of 3:00 PM and 11:30 PM. I have a 8:00 AM meeting at umemployment and then I will be at the Supermarket redeeming my soda bottles and cans. By the way could I get a FREE autugraphed jersey for supporting you. Even a Justin McCariens jersey would do.
