I wrote a feature on Vernon Gholston, here, which gets into his high school years in Detroit. His father had just died of multiple sclerosis, and his Cass Tech defensive coordinator Charleston Fobbs said despite his size and athleticism, he couldn’t tell a center from a linebacker.
Best quote if you’re a Jets fan:
“He really likes the New York situation,” Fobbs said. “The thing that’s good for him, all those folks that didn’t get him, they’re going to pay. And he’s proud to be a Jet to make them pay.”
