My take on the latest moves

Ok.. I know I’m a little late on this but I have to ask a serious question to ask. Why did the Jets sign Bubba Franks? What’s going to be his purpose? The organization took the time to work Chris Baker into a pass catching tight end and he’s a pretty good one; now you bring in Franks? I don’t know about the rest of you guys but I really don’t see the necessity. If you all give me a viable reason, I’m willing to be swayed. Now the other deal that to me is a little bit of a head scratcher is the move for Tony Richardson. I guess I can see it but if they really wanted a veteran full back; why did the Jets get rid of Gerald Sowell? He did a heck of a job for a lot of years for the Jets.Maybe with some of these moves, is it too much to ask for Brian Schottenheimer to bring the play-action pass back into the offensive repertoire? But I still want to pose this question, playing GM for a minute, with all of the free-agent moves, where would you go with that sixth pick?

Jane McManus

Chris Long would still be my first choice, followed by Gholston and Darren McFadden.
1) Franks is a depth move, not a move in any way to supplant Baker. It solidifies the running game that much more and allows Baker to potentially flourish as a pass catcher, letting Franks do the dirty work in double sets.
2) Richardson is an excellent blocking fullback and he will increase the team’s success at running the ball like Franks
3) The team can actually USE the play action when they have a running game … no one cares about defending the run if your unit is terrible and they can keep guys in coverage.
4) These are moves to allow the team to not rely on the QB so heavily … whether it’s Pennington or Clemens … neither is going to need to carry the team on their shoulders right now … just ask Ben Roethlisberger about how a good running game got him a ring and a huge contract.
PS – It’s Richardson and Sowell
Bubba will make the most impact in the red zone in a two tight end set, and our big new fullback behind him. Run or pass to one or both of TE’s slipping out after a block. Defenses will be tested to figure it out.
