Faneca joins the O-line

February
29

What a flurry of moves. If the Jets stink again next year at least you won’t be able to say it’s for lack of trying. Their latest move was the best, signing Pro-Bowl guard Alan Faneca away from the Steelers. The 10-year vet and seven-time Pro-Bowler signed a four year, $32 million deal.

This marked a big change of heart for team management, which wouldn’t even throw a million bucks Pete Kendall’s way to shut him up. Maybe they thought guard wasn’t an important position. Guess again. Guard was their biggest need last year. Their guards were really pathetic, starting with the recently cut Adrien Clarke. I think D’Brick’s development was stunted by playing next to such poor linemates. Now he’s next to the best in the business. Faneca is a huge upgrade from everybody, including Kendall. The Steelers have had one of the most consistent O-lines, both in pass protection and run-blocking, for many years. I mean, they even made Amos Zereoue look good.

Plus I hate the Steelers so any blow to them works for me.

I think the FO was saying there is an exit as well as an entrance and they only want guys that want to stay. I’m for that! Doesn’t have to be nasty like Kendall’s was, but you CAN leave. What surprised most people was that they were willing to take the hit to make their point. I don’t think they’ll have to do that twice. Vilma is a case in point. Vilma wanted out, they found a way to make it work.

Looks like Faneca was just USING the Jets to get more money elsewhere. Who’d want to come to such a pathetic team other than not having a choice (e.g. Trade).

I don’t think anything has changed with Faneca. The latest reports suggest the deal is just taking a little longer to finalize. Should still be done by the weekend. I still expect him to be a Jet.

    Big Ed,

The truth is that in the NFL, there is not all that much separating the good teams from the bad. The Jets lost a lot of close games this year. Faneca is a good move, one that can help change the Jets’ fortunes. You call the Jets pathetic, and yes their record may have been this past year, but with moves such as this and a good draft, who knows what next year holds…............Go wipe the tears out of your eyes with your terrible towel.

Erik, think about it. We drafted Vilma #12 and Robertson #4. Now we’re getting rid of them. “Smart” coaches use what they have. We should have been playing a 4-3. Everyone’s talking about Sutton losing his job and not paying “any” attention to the terrible state of the offense. They, move and shift and do all that “fancy” stuff, then the opposing defense smacks us in the mouth. I call that pathetic.

Did Mangini draft them? It’s a new time. I agree that the personnel was better suited for a 4-3. now we are making changes to better adapt to the 3-4…....If you’re a Jet fan, I think it’s pathetic to refer to your team as pathetic and talk about how no player would want to come here. We are not as far away as you may think. A good start in the free agent market has us headed in a good direction. I’m looking at a marked improvement from last last year.

According to Cimini, it’s a done deal now. This was a major necessity for them. I didn’t feel it was really fair to just the QB’s or Thomas Jones, when they had to operate between the sieve the had last year. Now that they have solidified the foundation, we’ll have a much better feel for what we’ve got at the skill positions.
