Not so fast, Rob Ryan

January
5

Looks like defensive coordinator Rob Ryan isn’t leaving the Raiders after all. After much speculation, Raiders spokesman Mike Taylor said the second-year coordinator will stick around for another year. The San Francisco Chronicle painted the situation as a power struggle between owner Al Davis and head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin wanted Ryan, who he inherited when he was hired before the year, fired. Davis wanted to keep him. And Davis, old and out of it as he may be, still calls the shots. Great idea to overrule and undermine your head coach. And people wonder why the Raiders don’t win anymore.

The Jets still haven’t announced anything on Bob Sutton’s status. This development, though, makes him more likely to stick around. Mangini was close to Ryan. Of course his brother Rex, the Ravens defensive coordinator, is still available if he doesn’t get a head coaching job.

Well, supposedly Mangini took some of the reigns from Sutton after the bye week and they improved (which I think may have had as much to do with Harris, as the schemes). Whatever happens…hopefully, he won’t hand the Sunday play-calling back to Sutton. They did improve on defense, to the point where I now consider offensive line help to be our number one offseason priority. A lot of people want to hang Pennington and Jones, but I don’t think anybody stood a chance operating behind that line. A lot of people seem to view Jones as a failure, but I think it looks quick and powerful, when the line gives him a chance to take a step or two.

Tangini needs to fix in this offseason what they broke in the last one.

Well, that was the first name to surface this year as coming to the J*E*T*S. Lets see how many more names are forecast as possible J*E*T*S. An how many actually come in. I am sure Fanecas name will come up at some time or another and everybody will get excited. Then he will sign with somebody else. Or maybe even get flown out of town in the middle of the night. Until this team can sign the top FAs they will be a project in the making. The Kendall situation does not help either. Players have said they were promised more money from this team and the team always turns them away. Chris Baker may be the next casualty.
