What the D in Gate D stands for

Hate to open my stewardship of the blog with a story like this, but it just came over the wires.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Senate President Dick Codey wants a crackdown on the behavior of Jets fans at Giants Stadium. The New York Times reports some fans gather on a pedestrian ramp at Gate D and engage in an obscenity-laced chant for women to expose their breasts. Codey says Gate D apparently stands for â€Ĺ“drunk and disgusting.â€?
Codey wants the heads of the State Police and state Sports and Exposition Authority to investigate the reports and end the gatherings. At Sunday’s Pittsburgh game, the newspaper said security did nothing while fans crowded the ramp for about 20 minutes. The newspaper said there was a roar when at least one woman flashed her breasts. Codey says there’s no place at sporting events for fear, intimidation and obscenities. The Senate president says violators should have their tickets taken away and be removed from the stadium.
Did you guys see this going on? Was it as bad as the story suggests? Should they rename it Gate D&D to make Dick Codey’s acronym work better? Although that might draw people who play Dungeons and Dragons, and if you think getting harassed by rowdy hooligans is bad, wait until you get attacked by a dude in an orc outfit. Not cool.

I was at the game and and sit right near gate D. Its mostly people who go out for a smoke during the game. I saw a drunken ruckus on the ramp once a few years ago when I went for a bathroom break. It seemed good natured although I didn’t really pay much attention to it.
It seems to me that the solution is trivial: Ban smoking inside the stadium! Why anyone would spend NFL ticket price money to hang out by the ramp is beyond me. Go to a bar!
By the way its not only on the Jets fans. I’ve been to Rich stadium (Buffalo) and it is a zoo! They banned monday night games there for several due to neighborhood complaints. Pittsburgh fans who came to the Meadowlands were also pretty rowdy on Sunday. Perhaps the Jets could market family only sections where drinking etc are banned.
I haven’t seen it, but have seen mentions of it.
Just goes to show that Jets fans, don’t get any championships,
and some don’t get any…
This has been going on for years, although it seems to be getting worse recently, probably because when the jets get this bad the fans that show up aren’t the cream of the crop, they just got the tickets cheap or free because the season ticket holders are bailing out. I’m not condoning the behavior, but the story goes overboard referring to “intimidation”, the majority of people that congregate there know exactly what is going to transpire, male and female, that is why they are there in the first place, so to make it sound as if innocent bystanders are being forced into this activity is a bit much.
This has been going on for years. I Always wondered why there was never a crackdown and the NJSEA just let it spiral to where it is today. Besides the chants there have been worse incidents, like food carts being flung down the spirals, and garbage being tossed at drunkards running in the center of the spirals. Even then, their was little reaction from the NJSEA security to put a stop to it. Now finally it appears in the NY Times and the NJSEA is up in arms. Please.
You gather any group of drunk rowdy men in one spot and add some attention seeking girls and you will get this result in any stadium across the country. But I am sure the national media will again jump on Jets fans and write how we are all savages and a black eye to the league.
The poster above was right. You need to eliminate smoking from the whole stadium. Thats what allowed this congregation of people in the first place.
So shame on those Jets fans who participated in the spirals…. but even more shame on the NJSEA for letting it come to this after YEARS of it happening.
