A poor replacement for Andrew

November
19

Hi fellow Jets fans, this is Jake Thomases. I’m another reporter here at The Journal News, and I’ll be commandeering this blog along with fellow reporter/fan Debbie Schechter for the rest of the season. It’ll be a different kind of blog with us in charge. Debbie and I won’t be at Jets practice every day so we can’t hope to provide the insider information that Andrew did. We’re here to lend a fan’s perspective as the team tries to claw its way back to relevance.

Even more so than when Andrew was here, we need your contributions to propel the conversation. We can all celebrate together and suffer together. All I’m hoping to do is make a couple interesting points. Hopefully you’ll stick with us (and not compare us to Andrew).

At least the Jets gave us a running start with their overtime win over Pittsburgh, one of my most hated teams. I’ll be back later with thoughts on the victory.

Dont take this the wrong way but Im very disapointed. SOunds like ANdrews spot was eliminated and thats a bummer. Its great that your fans but most writers arent and try to be objective. ANdrew had a relationship with the players and got inside info, he also was around the team every day and had a real feel for behind the scenes stuff. With the limitations you guys seems to have had put on you you simply wont be able to garner the same knowledge. I actualy had a few ocaasions where Andrew would actualy take a question I asked him and ask it of Mangini, how much better can you get.

Vinny…You’re right, we’ll never have the same access that Andrew had. If you have a question for Mangini the best I can do is wait outside his house. That’s why I wanted to tell everyone our limitations right off the bat. Don’t get confused about the nature of my fandom though. I may love the Jets but that doesn’t mean I can’t be objective. Just look at Andrew. He was a Jets fan but treated his job like a good reporter should. I hope to do the same. You won’t see me screaming “The Jets got screwed!!” after a loss.

Also, everyone should know that Andrew’s spot was not eliminated. He left of his own volition to pursue other things.

Vinny and Jake…I must say…Andrew was THE BEST….there are many sites out there, Jets Insider, Jets Confidential, etc, but Andrew was the absolute best of them and as excited as I was for the win yesterday, I am actually quite bummed. I have a wife, a son, and one on the way, so I have a life outside the Jets, but I am a 27-year die hard Jets fan and Andrew really kept us in the loop…my one regret was actually seeing him at Jets camp this summer and not calling him over to say hi…his contribution to this blog will be missed!!

Welcome, and good luck. Let’s all keep open minds.

I’m still here. It would be unfair to compare you with Andrew, but thanks for carrying on this forum. I think there are a lot of good contributors and I hope I will still be able to read their insights here.

    Absolutely absolutely.

Jake et al – - Welcome to Jetslandistan.

Of course, not having access to the locker room, will cramp our style a bit. But hey, this is your honeymoon period.
We’ll reserve judgement… so the pressure is on ;)

I hear AG moved on to the Record, in another capacity.
Good luck, in running this blog… we’ll do what we can to help…
