Jets-Giants pregame

October
7

Yes, Darian Barnes’ fans, the big fullback is active today. Really, this was a no-brainer, especially considering the Giants’ knack for getting pressure on the quarterback.

And, again going over some old ground, but I don’t think the Jets would be able to convince me that Barnes was inactive last week for anything other than punitive measures for speaking out against the Dolphins’ Joey Porter.

Plus, the coaching staff was less than thrilled with Joe Kowalewski’s clipping penalty last week and the second-year tight end is inactive today.

Anyway, sitting here in what will officially be called today as Giants Stadium (the Jets pretend to call it the Meadowlands but since they’re the visiting team, oh well) next to my esteemed colleague, Ernie Palladino. In addition to checking out Jets Journal today, please also go to Ernie’s Giants Journal, there’s a link up top, he’ll be sharing his thoughts on the game as well.

Here are the full inactives.

Jets – QB Marques Tuiasosopo (third quarterback), WR David Clowney (thought he might be active since he was signed to the 53-man roster to replace special teams standout Cody Spencer), S Erik Coleman (concussion, no surprise, Eric Smith will start in his place), TE Joe Kowalewski, OL Will Montgomery, DE Mike DeVito, OL Jacob Bender and TE Jason Pociask.

Giants – QB Jared Lorenzen (third quarterback), WR Steve Smith, S Craig Dahl, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, T Adam Koets, DE Dave Tollefson, DT Manny Wright and G Kevin Boothe.

Happy to say Jets are again wearing white-on-white, really love that look. Giants in their classic blue-on-gray, thank goodness they’re not breaking out those awful red uniforms today. The Jets are going to unveil their New York Titans’ blue-and-gold this week to hype their throwback look next week against the Eagles.

The temperature is 80 degrees with the wind from the northeast at 8 mph.

Meanwhile, I’m still recovering from my bout with the opera last night. Probably shouldn’t say that because it makes me sound uncultured and it was a lovely evening out with my wife and her father, who is a huge opera buff. It’s just that the seat was uncomfortable and the air conditioner malfunctioned at the State Theater and then some freakishly tall gentleman sat down next to me and took up half of my seat too.

Give me a sporting event any day, I’m not too good at being quiet.

I’ll check back later, let me know what you’re thinking as the Jets play for their season.

Andrew, don’t feel bad, my wife is dragging me to see Grease on Friday night…I don’t know if you saw the commercial for some beer company where there are two guys at the opera and they have bottled beer which breaks when the singer hits the high note. A guy in front of him has beer in a can, looks back and asks them if they are at the opera for the first time..good stuff

I can’t believe you like the white on white look Andrew. I find it very boring and dull, not to mention I think they look soft in them…but then again this is a soft team so maybe it fits. I’d lso like to see them go back to the green socks with their away uniforms

As for the game, if we win I’ll be shocked. I’ve become so frustrated and hopeless with this offensive line of ours and our complete inability to run the ball. I mean even when we do run well, it feels like pulling teeth. We just just so small and undersized, it’s almost like we don’t belong on the same field with the big boys. Maybe Mangini’s “robot effect” as I like to call it has really taken all the emotion out of this team? I like Mangini but your players aren’t supposed to be chess pieces. They’re the ones who’ve gotta make the play and get the push at the line…and your brain doesn’t get penetration on the d-line, or prevent it on the o-line. Size and attitude do…and we have neither.

Enjoy the game Andrew, you do a great job with the blog. Keep it up

Sorry about the opera thing…I’ll be much happier Tuesday seeing Elvis Costello..with Bob Dylan. I hope the Jets deliver some much needed sunshine to the suffering faithful today.

    David,

Wow, Costello and Dylan, that’s a heckuva double bill. Enjoy that.

  5. David

Thanks Andrew…I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Wow, what a crazy half. I was ready to be happy with a 7-7 tie, but I’m much happier than I expected to be, now. Can we possibly hold onto this and not screw it up. God, I hope so. Say what you want about the guy, but with two minutes on the clock, I’ll take Chad over just about anyone.
