The Turk lurks

September

Just sitting here in front of my computer, waiting for a 5 p.m. conference call to hear the Jets announce their final cuts.

OK, I’ve got other things to do, like some shopping and entertaining my visiting Aunt Rebecca (yes, the same Aunt Rebecca who is an occasional poster here) and her granddaughter.

Also, I find myself sad when reading this “story”:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2999994 on Patriots’ veteran Rodney Harrison being suspended for four games after acknowledging he used human growth hormones in what he said was an attempt to recover from an injury. Sad in this way, obviously Harrison knows the difference between right and wrong and I’m sure if you had asked him while he was doing the HGH, he would have said it was wrong. But these NFL players are so one-tracked that they’ll ignore their own conscience. Since nothing is guaranteed in the NFL in terms of contracts or roster spots, the players feel enormous pressure to do whatever it takes to remain active. I’m not saying I’m condoning what Harrison did, I’m just saying I can almost understand his rationale. He obviously loves playing football, taking HGH would help him play football again. A equals B. The end justifies the means.

I’m sure Jets coach Eric Mangini will be asked about this on his conference call. I’m not so sure Mangini will be willing to make a definitive comment one way or the other, other than he’ll say he respects Harrison as a player. But we have to try.

As for the cuts. I’ve been saying all along DE Kimo von Oelhoffen won’t make the team. And if it comes down to WRs Wallace Wright or Frisman Jackson, I think the Jets will stick with Wright. There’s a good chance both might be gone. I still can’t read what they’re going to do with QB Marques Tuiasosopo. I guess I’ll lean toward the Jets keeping him at this point. Based on the Eagles game, I’d cut OT Adrian Jones.

The Jets should also admit they made a mistake drafting Anthony Schlegel in the third round last year. Nice guy but the Jets have better linebackers.

Anyway, we’ll chat some more later. My daughter and her friend want to pop on the home computer I’m using so I’m being logged out. Just a gentle reminder, the NFL Shield poll is still active at the right. Rock the vote.

Guess we know now why the Pats drafted Merriweather.

No great surprises in the cuts.
I know some will be surprised about Ware, but other than having a good burst, he didn’t show much to me. He runs to straight-up.
Tutt surprised me with his burst, on Thursday, for such a big guy. I suspect his performance was the determining factor for Ware.
I imagine Ware might be signed to the Practice Squad, if he can get through waivers.
