Talk to you soon

So, if you ask a sports writer, at least an NFL beat writer, where he’s going for summer vacation, what do you think the natural response would be?
Of course, Disney World.
Yup, me and the family are heading south soon for a week of fun at what will probably be the hottest place on earth. But when am I going to go, November?
Anyway, I know the posts have become a little sparodic lately and now I’m going away for three weeks. Plus, when I get back, the LPGA Tour comes to Westchester so that may occupy me for a bit.
But training camp is right around the corner and I hope, on my second year on the beat, to always improve my coverage of the team. Every job has its frustrations but, trust me, I know how lucky I am to be able to be around an NFL team on an everyday basis. Come the last week of July, it’s my goal to make this blog an even better forum for Jets’ discussion and analysis.
Funny story about vacation and the Jets. My vacation starts tomorrow and my eldest daughter has a swim meet. Swim meets, of course, start early. So I need to have my girl in the pool by 7:30 a.m.
And where’s this meet? At Hofstra.
So, to recount. On the first day of vacation, I’ll be at Hofstra at 7:30 in the morning.
Irony comes in many forms.
A couple of thoughts about the Jets before I sign off.
I know it was only OTAs and minicamp but I thought many of the Jets looked in good form, Chad Pennington in particular. …And I wouldn’t get too concerned about Kellen Clemens just yet. No, he wasn’t sharp – strike that – consistent but there’s still time to make adjustments. I do know there will be quite a few disappointed people around Weeb Ewbank Hall if Clemens is unable to beat out Marques Tuiasosopo to be Pennington’s backup. …Also, Andre Wadsworth is a great human interest story and it’s impossible not to want to see him be able to come back, he’s looking like the longest of long shots. But, boy, if Eric Hicks could ever turn back the clock, the Jets might have seriously improved their defensive line because David Bowens looks like he’s going to be a big contributor. …Can’t wait to see Thomas Jones in camp. The Jets acquired him while he’s still got a couple of seasons left in his prime. …I’m betting on first-rounder Darrelle Revis to show the same kind of improvement in his ball handling that Leon Washington showed last year in training camp. …The Jets will resolve the Pete Kendall situation before training camp because Eric Mangini couldn’t have been more displeased with the distraction and circus-like atmosphere of minicamp.
Hope everybody has a wonderful summer and I’ll catch up with you guys again before training camp.
All the best,
Andrew

Have a great trip! A few things … I don’t recommend the sushi at WOlfgang Puck’s Disney Downtown, unless you like food poisoning.
Enjoy!
Okay ANdrew. I go to DIsny at least once a year. If you can get the kids used to being up late, Parks are cooler and less young kids at night. The Disny parks with Magic hours tend to be the most crowded on those days no bargain, Hit the pools at hot hours. YOu want to see the electric parade and MK and Phntasm at MGM. A great great time to hit the rides is during these pardes once youve sen them. YOull find the rides to be empty. At the Animal Kingdoam th rLion King show and Nemo are musts. Learn to use your fastpass. If you have kids still in a stroller Disny rapes you on stroller reantals. Cheaper to buy one once your down there.
Andrew:
Unless the Jets package Kendall, a one mil cash bonus, and a 3rd round pick to Pittsburgh for Faneca (more than the Steelers will get in two years if they let Faneca walk after this year), OR, unless PK agrees to a performance bonus to get his money, I fail to see any resolution to the Kendall story before training camp that does not hurt our team.
I just don’t get the urgency all of you in the media seem to be concerned about. So PK is upset about a contract he and his agent agreed to sign. So what? Lots of players seemed upset this year with their tags, deals, etc. (e.g., Briggs, Samuel, LJ, etc.).
The media are, in fact, giving voice to this sh_t because they have little else to write given the tight-as-a-lock-box demeanor of Tangini’s FO. So, on the one hand they make/focus on this a story and OTOH, they say Tangini must do something (by definition stupid given the options I can see) about it.
I might expect this from Hutch and especially Cimini….

H, agree almost every camp has at least one of these situations. PK has absolutely zero leverage and will be in camp, making noise but there.
What the Jets need to do is go on the offensive. Announce to the world that they have no intention of renegotiating his contract or releasing him and they expect him to be a professional and honor his contract.
I do believe it was mishandled by management and originally sided with him, but have grown tired of his whining, especially the part about taking shots in his back to stay on the field. EVERY NFL player has done that, he is not some martyr.
Jets renegotiated PKs deal last year when the team was straining to remain under the cap. The Jets should offer him a contract at market value or release him.
Come on Jets man up.
Andrew, this is the best Jets blog. Enjoy FLA
