The Jets have filled three spots on their coaching roster.
Mike MacIntyre, a Dallas assistant the past four seasons who coached the Cowboys’ safeties in 2006, is the Jets’ new defensive backs coach. He replaces Corwin Brown, who is now Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator. Bill Parcells must have given his former assistant, Eric Mangini, a really good recommendation.
Jerome Henderson, the Jets director of player development, will now also have the additional duties of assistant DB coach.
And Sal Alosi returns to the Jets as the strength and conditioning coach, replacing Markus Paul, who was named today as the Giants’ assistant strength and conditioning coach. Alosi served as the Falcons strength and conditioning coach in 2006 but was the Jets assistant director of physical development in 2005 and the team’s assistant strength and conditioning coachh in 2003-04, working for Herm Edwards.
Interestingly, the Giants put out a press release today in which they mentioned Paul’s hiring near the bottom. The Jets, of course, had not publicized the fact that they had let Paul go so thanks to the crosstown rivals for breaking some news on this beat.
Not that the strength and conditioning coach ever has much contact with the media or public, anyway, but I did know Paul, if only as a passing acquaintance. He was a standout safety for Syracuse while I attended that fine university and, as a member of the school paper, frequently interviewed him.
I reminded him of that during our one, brief conversation this season. I wish I could report he said something witty or memorable but it was something like, “Oh, that’s great,’’ without much of a follow up. Then again, Mangini doesn’t let his assistants talk to the press so Paul probably didn’t want to be spied chatting with me.

I was surprised to see that Paul was released.
Any idea why?
I was under the impression, that he was a very good coach.
Thanks for keeping the info comin’, monsieur
burf,
The explanation apparently is Alosi was more experienced dealing with ``different systems,’’ whatever that means. I wasn’t around when Alosi was first with the team but he developed a very good reputation during his first tenure with the Jets, as well as his time working for Joe Gardi at Hofstra. The move may have been not so much as an anti-Paul move, but a pro-Alosi move.
What’s strange to me, is that we’re coming off a pretty healthy season. I’d probably have opted to continue what was working.
If we have more injuries next season, I suspect Mangini will get some flack.
I hope you don’t get bored, with all the thanks you get here, Andrew. You’ve really added a lot, to the Jetslandistan
[...] Funny, in the one year Alosi is gone, Chad goes all 16 games. Coincidence? Also, Jerome Henderson the Jets director of player development, will help Mike MacIntyre with the defensive backs. [...]
