Jaguars lose Stroud

October
5

The Jaguars defense that looked so good in a 9-0 win at Pittsburgh Sept. 18 took another hit today when defensive tackle Marcus Stroud, a 6-foot-6, 306-pound three-time Pro-Bowl selection, was downgraded from doubtful to out with ankle and groin injuries. He had started 68 straight games.

Jacksonville has allowed 57 points in its last two games, both losses to drop its record to 2-2. Strangely, the Jaguars looked good in a 21-14 loss to the Colts, thanks to their offense doing a great job of limiting Indianapolis’ time of possession. But against their ex-quarterback, Mark Brunell, and the Redskins this past Sunday, they were torched in a 36-30 overtime loss. Ex-Jet Santana Moss caught three touchdown passes, including a 68-yard reception for the game-winner.

Not ready to make a full prediction just yet. Suffice to say the Jets’ offense should be able to score some points even though Jacksonville’s defense is both big (real big) and fast. Stroud’s absence will hurt.

The Jaguars also downgraded wide receiver Matt Jones (hamstring) and defensive end Marcellus Wiley (groin) from doubtful to out. FB Derrick Wimbush (knee) was upgraded from doubtful to questionable.

The Jets made no changes from yesterday’s injury report.

For the second straight week it appears that the Jets are catching a break by facing a top notch team not at full strength. LEts see if they are able to capitalize.

Obvious problem is that the perceived weekness is in an area, defense against the run, that the Jets may not have the ability to capitalize upon.
